Santiago de Compostela to Vigo
Log:
29/11/22 Taxi to Vigo Station (I was early, taxi 30 mins. late!) Departed Vigo station 11:30 AM on time. Arr. Vigo at 12:20. 20 minute very steep climb to my Hotel with a 23 Kg holdall! Exhausted! Tour of Castelo de Castro in Vigo. Eve. Dinner in Vigo with fellow crew.
Yacht Challenger 2 delayed due to less favourable winds and engine issues. Revised boarding time of 5 p.m. Tuesday 29th Nov. postponed to Wednesday 30th Nov.
Challenger 2 arrived 18:30 Wed 30th, too late to board, so boarding postponed to Thursday 1st December.
What did I do?
Chilled out with a delicious ice-cream and coffee for lunch in the festive shopping centre in Vigo.
Followed instructions of a short reasonable walk from station to Hotel, this turned out to be an epic steep climb and exhausting as I had a 23 kg holdall and additional rucksack. I was determined not to succumb to cheating and getting a taxi. If the other crew could cope with this walk then so could I!
Went sight seeing around the Castelo de Castro. Stunning views of Vigo.
Met my amazing fellow crew and one of our Watch Leaders Rob.
Watched it rain buckets in Vigo! Lots of chats and got to know my fellow crew.
What did I learn?
A few smiles and warm helpful gestures can translate into many languages.
The wonderful bonding experience of fellow crew helping eachother when faced with adversity.
Quiet contemplation and the joy of just chilling out watching the world go by can be wonderfully relaxing. A wonderful luxury.
Everyone needs a Mama Bear! We had a lovely scout leader amongst us who is a born leader and was wonderful in organising all our accommodation for the 2nd night. She said she was nick-named Mama Bear and we soon learnt why!
An exhausted crew can still find the energy to sing loudly and celebrate life once safely united on dry land!
The Challenger 2 Skipper and Watch leaders are incredibly skilled and experienced and coped amazingly well with all that the elements had thrown at them, Its a very narrow entrance to the marina with no engine!
See you soon in my next post when we board Challenger 2!
