This is a lovely walk back in time from the Trelissick Car Park to Roundwood Quay (Coronavirus restrictions mean that car park slots have to be pre-booked through the National Trust website, or you can park for free in a quiet lane a few hundred metres before Trelissick). Take the path through the woodland alongside the creek to the river Fal. You pass over a pretty bridge and onto Roundwood Fort. This is an Iron Age hill fort also known as a promontory fort and you can still see the trenches of the double enclosure.
The site then opens out onto the remnants of the historic Roundwood Quay, this is now a paradise for dog walkers and children alike. The day we were there it was an end of term outing for a small group of school girls jumping off the quay walls.
Deer Dip
We were also treated to a beautiful site of a deer swimming from one side of the creek to the other and then scrambling ashore, something that it looks like he has done many-a-time. Magical moments along the Fal.
A Little History:
For those of you who like a little history; The quay is an 18th century structure and is grade II listed. Most likely it was first used for copper smelting. During the ownership of Ralph Allen Daniel (1813-23) the quay was restored and given new life.
