Practical Sustainable Action

Sustainable sailing requires thoughtful preparation. Sailors, perhaps more than most, witness the consequences of plastic pollution first-hand.

A few considered choices can make a meaningful difference:

• Provision consciously: buy in bulk and use refill shops where possible and avoid excess packaging
• Decant supplies into reusable containers before departure
• Carry refillable water bottles and install onboard filtration systems if feasible
• Choose natural materials over synthetic where practical, including cleaning products and clothing
• Avoid disposable items such as wipes, cling film, and single-use utensils
• Manage waste carefully onboard, ensuring nothing enters the sea unintentionally
• Repair rather than replace, extending the life of equipment and reducing unnecessary consumption

Sailing has always been about a close relationship with the elements. Protecting the ocean is not a separate task, but a natural extension of that relationship.
