These journeys go beyond sailing, offering a direct connection to the realities shaping our oceans and, in turn, our everyday lives. Organisations such as eXXpedition bring together multidisciplinary crews to investigate plastic pollution at sea, combining rigorous scientific research with powerful storytelling to drive change from sea to source.

The aim of this section is to share these research-led voyages as a catalyst for understanding and change. By exploring what happens on board, how data is gathered, and how experiences are translated into action back on land, it becomes clear that these journeys are not simply about exploration, but about equipping individuals with the knowledge and perspective to protect the systems that sustain us all.

I hope to review other organisations committed to developing Sailing as a catalyst for such as Sailing4 Science whose mission is to “inspire, engage and motivate people to connect with our ocean.” ….”to help unleash their oceanic potential – from a natural, economic, planetary, and humanitarian perspective.”
